App Privacy

When you use our apps on a mobile device, they have access to certain personal and identifying information. We only use information that we believe helps provide a secure and productive experience for the user, but it is important that you know how this information is used and stored.
Seguro
Seguro is our temperature and environmental monitoring app that monitors and controls Seguro devices. It uses various capabilities of the mobile device, as well as information provided from identity providers such as Google and Apple, to enhance the experience of the user.
Location
If location permission is granted, the app will attach the longitude and latitude of the user when a recording is started or stopped to the recording. It also uses available public databases to translate the longitude and latitude into an approximate street address, in a process called reverse-geocoding. If you do not grant location permission, it will not be used.
Note that for Android apps only, Location permission is required for the mobile device to connect to a BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) device, such as a Seguro card. If you are interested, more detailed information on this can be found here: https://source.android.com/devices/bluetooth/ble. Because of this, the Android app will ask for location permission the first time it is started, since you will not be able to connect to Seguro devices without it. The app will then ask separately if you want to attach your location the first time you start or stop a recording.
For Apple iOS apps, Location permission is not required to connect to BLE devices, so Location is not requested until the first time a recording is started or stopped.
NFC (Near Field Communication)
The app uses NFC (“tapping” a device) to get summary and identifying information from a Seguro device, and provides additional security to prevent device “spoofing”. The Seguro device does not request or receive any information from the mobile device.
Bluetooth
As part of the connection process, the app will scan for nearby Bluetooth devices. It does not store or transmit this information. The app will only connect to BLE devices that a) match the manufacturer ID for sensified.io, b) match the hardware ID of the device that was tapped.
Personal Information
Some personal information of the user is used in the app, stored in the cloud, and published in reports that may be available to other users. For instance, if a user requests a monthly report of recordings that they initiated, some of your personal information may be available to that user if you stop a recording that they initiated while logged in.
Specifically:
For users that create an account with sensified.io:
Your email will be used to identify you on reports, including reports that other users generate. If you request automated offline reports to be generated and sent to you, your email will be used as the destination email address. No other information is requested or stored, and sensified.io will not send any emails to this email address that do not directly relate to your account; i.e. we will not send marketing, new product announcements, or other nonsense to this account, unless we have obtained your email address from somewhere else, such as the “Contact Us” page on our website. We will never give or sell this email address to any third party.
For users that authenticate using a 3rd party identity provider, such as Google or Apple, we request the following information from those providers:
Name
We will display your name on the app, and use it to identify you on reports, some of which will be available to other users if they were involved in a recording that you were also involved in (i.e. they stopped a recording that you started, or vice versa). Your name may also appear on internal reports used by sensified.io personnel only. We will never give or sell your name to any third party.
Email Address
Your email address will be displayed on the app, and if you request automated offline reports to be generated and sent to you, your email will be used as the destination email address. Your email is not used on user-generated reports, including those generated by other users. It may be included in internal reports used by sensified.io personnel only. We will not send any emails to this email address that do not directly relate to your account; i.e. we will not send marketing, new product announcements, or other nonsense to this account, unless we have obtained your email address from somewhere else, such as the “Contact Us” page on our website. We will never give or sell this email address to any third party.
Language Preference
We will only use the language preference, if provided, to provide offline reports in that language, if that capability exists. Reports generated directly on the mobile app, as well as the mobile app itself, will use the language setting currently in use on the mobile device.
Profile Picture
Your profile picture, if provided, will be displayed in the app as an avatar to indicate you are logged in. It isn’t stored or transmitted outside the app, and isn’t used in any reports.
