B2B Cold Chain Logistics
With all of their advanced features, it's easy to forget that Seguro shipment monitors can also be a direct replacement for traditional USB data loggers. They provide all of the same functionality, and do it faster, simpler, and more cost-effectively.
When preparing the shipment, simply press the start button on the Seguro logger, just as you would a traditional logger, and place it in the packaging or the waybill on the pallet. On the receiving end, tap the Seguro logger with any smartphone, and press stop to get the complete temperature history of the journey. Export to PDF, Excel, or JSON, or use Sensified's cold chain visibility platform to integrate with your organization's workflows.
In addition, the design of Seguro shipment monitors offers solutions to several problems that are prevalent in cold chain logistics.
"Our suppliers keep forgetting to press the start button. Seriously, how hard can that be?"
One of the concerns we hear often from cold chain professionals is that suppliers often neglect to press the start button on USB data loggers, and shipments arrive without any recorded temperature history. Seguro's unique "always on" design means that they are always recording, and while the Start button provides an easy way to mark the start of a trip, it is also possible to capture temperature data retroactively for an arbitrary length of time, up to the length of the logger's recording buffer. This means that even if the supplier neglects to press the start button, a full temperature history can be recorded for that shipment.
"We had a shipment in quarantine for a week because our only QA person was out sick."
It's common in many cold chain logistics operations, particularly those in pharma, to have a separate "quarantine" area, where temperature controlled shipments are stored while the loggers are removed from the package or pallet and taken to a dedicated workstation. The workstation has the software installed that is needed to read the USB logger, and the QA inspector examines the temperature history, investigates any anomalies and (usually) releases the shipment from quarantine. Since the QA process requires dedicated equipment and trained personnel, it often injects delays of 1-2 days in the process, decreasing throughput and increasing inventory costs.
Since Seguro temperature tags can be accessed wirelessly using any smartphone, quarantine time can be greatly reduced, and sometimes even eliminated. If the Seguro tag is easily accessible, for instance in the waybill envelope on the side of the pallet, then the Seguro tag can even be read without removing it from the shipment at all. The temperature history can even be read while the pallet is still on the truck, before the shipment is received on the dock.
"Our suppliers, shippers, and warehouse people keep pointing fingers. I'm so over this."
One of the challenges we often hear is that with USB data loggers, the temperature record for the shipment and for warehouse storage are separate, and it's often difficult to tie them together. This is because the USB loggers need to be removed from the shipment and taken to the QA workstation, and it's difficult to ensure that the same logger finds its way back to the same package or pallet.
With Seguro temperature tags, the temperature history is read and stored at the pallet, often without removing it. The reading of the tag at the receiving dock can even be done as a checkpoint, without stopping and starting the recording. This allows the entire history of the package or pallet to be kept as a single record, from the initial packing at the supplier to depalletization.
Seguro shipment monitors revolutionize cold chain logistics by providing a faster, more reliable, and efficient alternative to traditional USB data loggers. Their "always on" design ensures no data is missed, while wireless accessibility eliminates delays and simplifies quality assurance. By unifying temperature records from start to finish, Seguro monitors enhance traceability and streamline operations, making them a transformative solution for modern cold chain management.
